For issue 62 of InDesign Magazine (June 2014), I wrote a step-by-step tutorial called Duct Tape FX. It shows how to fill live text in InDesign with any image on top of any background. It’s an incredibly versatile and fun effect, and super simple to achieve. But the best part is that since you’re working with live text, you can make edits, change the font, size, etc, and the effect updates immediately. This is a great example of the advantages of creating graphic effects in InDesign, instead of using Photoshop or Illustrator.
